Introduction to the Course


This course is part of a MOOC series of the "Jockey Club CADENZA e-Tools for Elder Care" funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.


This course is open to health and social care professional or anyone who are interested to this subject in caring for the dementia. The difficulties in caring for person with dementia are considerable. This course leads you through the challenges and difficulties in caring issues through hearing stories from caregivers. Also, this course emphasizes the optimization of a person's intrinsic capacities to its full potential to manage oneself as independently as possible in maintaining one's well-being.


The course opens on 31 January, 2019 and will run through identical issues till mid of 2025. Let us go through the "Jockey Club CADENZA e-Tools for Elder Care" in understanding the stories of caregivers of people with dementia, which are full of the frustration, tiredness and difficulties encountered.


You will learn to understand and respond to the meaning of the behavior from his/her perspectives that may have disturbed you. By adopting a person-centred approach and upholding intrinsic capacity of the person with dementia, they will receive compassionate care despite they cannot communicate their feelings of anxiety or pain the way they used to.


This course is divided into 5 sessions and we estimate that you will need to spend no more than 5 contact hours on average to complete the course. It is in self-paced mode. You can study anytime and anywhere you want. We suggest you could study in a weekly basis for each chapter at your own schedule. Before you start, here is some helpful information for successful completion of this course.

 

Assessment

After study all the chapters, there will be an assessment consists of 20 multiple choice questions. To facilitate your learning process, assessment are allowed to have multiple attempts. While answering the questions, you are free to refer back to the teaching videos for answers.


After completion of this course, certification of attendance or certification with 5 CNE points (Nurse only) will be awarded. Please refer to the information 'How to get certificate' for details.
